Hypoxia regulates the expression of a specific set of miRNAs previously termed hypoxamirs. Some hypoxamirs, such as miR-210, have a similar expression pattern in ubiquitous types of cells23, whereas others act as hypoxamirs only in specific types of tissues and cells.
