On July 5, 2018, the European Medicines Agency announced that it was reviewing products containing the API valsartan supplied by Zhejiang Huahai Pharmaceuticals in Linhai, China after N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) was detected by the company. National authorities in the European Union are recalling drugs containing the affected API.

With respect to individuals, the term “Israeli resident” is generally defined under Israeli tax legislation as a person whose center of life is in Israel. Such presumption may be rebutted either by the individual or by the assessing officer.

Zhejiang Huahai’s improved process replaced tributyltin azide with the more toxic compound, sodium azide, says André. As a result, the yield of tetrazole formation was much better. However, sodium nitrite was used to destroy the excess sodium azide that remained after the synthesis step. Sodium nitrite is often used as a decontaminating agent of sodium azide in acidic conditions, André says. That is interesting and I’ll have to read the paper, but I think the key thing to remember is that TERT is like a growth hormone. So its expression will be correlated with MTOR. Think of high MTOR spurring proliferation of new cells and you get the point.

Yes it is unclear whether this would be good or bad in vivo. Echoing what Alan said, obviously blocking protein synthesis includes sirtuins, but it’s only intermittent so would take this finding with a pinch of salt, and obviously whatever the downsides of rapamycin, it extends lifespan in everything it’s been tried in.

To study the effect of cholesterol content on human HCN channel activity, we first verified the effect of treatment on cholesterol content in CHO-K1 cells. Treatment with either 5 mM methyl-beta-cyclodextrin (MβCD) or 30 μM mevastatin (an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor) had nearly equivalent effects on decreasing cholesterol content by 40–60% compared to untreated (control) cells, while treatment with MβCD pre-complexed with cholesterol (MβCD/cholesterol) increased membrane cholesterol by nearly 50% (Supp. Fig. 1).
